Naples, Italy, 1884.
Fortuna Agrelli, the young daughter of a Commander in Naples, Italy was suffering from three incurable diseases. The family had consulted the most acclaimed doctors but all had determined the young girl’s case was hopeless. Believing nothing is impossible with God, on February 16, 1884, the Agrelli family began a novena of Rosaries in petition to the Blessed Mother for Fortuna’s recovery.
On March 3, 1884, the Our Lady of Pompeii appeared to Fortuna Agrelli sitting on a throne decorated with flowers, holding the Christ Child in her arms, and a Rosary in her hand. St. Catherine of Siena and St. Dominic appeared with the Blessed Mother and the Christ Child.

Fortuna greeted Our Lady: “Queen of the Holy Rosary, be gracious to me, restore me to health! I have already prayed to Thee in a novena, O Mary, but have not yet experienced Thy aid. I am so anxious to be cured!”
Our Lady responded: “You have invoked me by various titles and have always obtained favors from me. Now, since you have called me by the title so pleasing to me, ‘Queen of the Holy Rosary,’ I can no longer refuse the favor that you petition, for this name is most precious and dear to me. Make three novenas, and you will obtain all.” A short time later, Fortuna Agrelli was miraculously cured of her illness.
Our Lady appeared a second time to Fortuna saying: “Whoever desires to obtain favors from me should make three novenas of the prayers of the Rosary, and three novenas in thanksgiving.”
